Employees
Protecting you and your family
Your employer has recognised that during the
current flu pandemic it is important to protect
its employees where possible from the effects
of swine flu.
New cases of swine flu are being reported
daily and the government now expect new cases
to exceed 100,000 per day before the end of
the summer. As autumn and winter arrive, the
number of cases will increase dramatically,
with latest forecasts suggesting that up to
50% of the population will suffer from swine
flu this winter.
The impact on businesses will be significant.
While the NHS has stocks of anti-viral medication,
the sheer number of new cases daily will place
an enormous burden on services, with the likely
outcome that many people will remain untreated
and off work for a period of time.
As a business continuity provider, Influenza
Protection is able to provide this protection
to you and your family through the supply of
anti-viral medication to be taken in the event
of exposure to the swine flu virus.
How does it work
You are at most risk of contracting swine
flu from your immediate family and close contacts,
such as work colleagues and customers that
you meet face to face.
There are a number of anti-viral treatment
courses that are available. The anti-viral
medication that we supply comes direct from
Roche, who also supply the NHS with the same
medication.

A single treatment of anti-viral medication,
which covers 5 days and is taken if you start
to exhibit symptoms of swine flu, costs £45.94
inc VAT plus p+p. This reduces the spread of
the virus in your body and shortens the duration
of the illness.
Alternatively,
an enhanced level of protection is available
in the form of two 10 day courses which are
to be taken if you suspect that you have been
exposed to the virus. This could be if a family
member or close contact has shown symptoms
of swine flu.
Research has shown that this medical approach
is likely to offer the additional benefit of
a substantial level of immunity from further
infection as your body develops anti bodies
to the virus that you have been exposed to.
In addition you will receive a further single
treatment course to be taken should you exhibit
symptoms at a later date. This enhanced protection
costs just £110.25 plus p+p.
The anti-viral medication has been licensed
for over 10 years and to date over 40 million
courses have been prescribed worldwide. This
medication has an excellent safety record and
a very low side effect profile.
Next Steps
The anti-viral medication is a Prescription
Only Medication (POM). By clicking on ‘proceed’,
you will be asked to complete a medical questionnaire.
You can apply for medication there for you
and for your family as well.
Your employer will have been given a unique
reference number for your business that you
will need to have to enter the on-line screening
questionnaire. Ask your employer for this reference
number.
Please note that parents or legal guardians
may apply for their children under the age
of 16 years, however all adults must complete
their own medical questionnaires.
The Questionnaire is secure and will enable
our medical team to assess your suitability
to take the medication. At any time, you may
contact one of our trained nurses by clicking
on the ‘Live Help’ icon at the top of the page.
Children
The anti-viral medication is not licensed
for use in children under 1 year of age. Due
to medical confidentiality and legal reasons,
each person 16 and over needs to complete their
own application and questionnaire.
All children under 16 must have their application
and questionnaire completed by their parent/legal
guardian.
Medication should only be taken in the event
of a Pandemic. You will receive written instructions
and a letter for your GP from our Senior Medical
Officer with your medication.
